Our Honest Review: Is the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier Right for You?

Last updated: 14 January 2022

I can’t believe that we’re into the third year of this pandemic. Like most corporate workers, I had to resort to working from home but despite having a dedicated home office, it was still so difficult for me to focus because it just feels so stuffy all the time. I’m used to having only an oil diffuser on my office desk but ever since my skin gets irritated from the dry air and dust coming in from the windows, I knew I had to do something about the air quality at home. In this article, I’m gonna introduce my new companion at home, the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier. I’ve used it for a few weeks now and I honestly didn’t expect one device to make such a big difference.

Why did I choose Sterra?

Just like any other product out there, all air purifying devices have distinct features and technologies, each differing based on their sizes and filters. Prior to this, I had zero knowledge about air purifiers or how their filtering system works so I’d easily get turned off if brands were to use scientific terms or big words to describe their devices.

Sterra on the other hand, was very straightforward in their messaging and marketing. Their video ads got me watching til the end and there are countless organic reviews; most of which are personal experiences from regular customers. Being in marketing, I personally prefer brands that cut to the chase, don’t try to upsell without verified reviews and provide solid after purchase care to every customer, not just influencers. These factors honestly make it or break it for me. Once those are established, then I’ll consider the features of the product.

Since I’m caring for an elderly, my main concern was to get an air purifier that had medical grade standards that would help with the air quality at home; as this was previously recommended by NEA. Sterra’s product description for the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier is literally: Singapore’s No. 1 hospital-grade air purifier that eliminates deadly viruses, smoke, and air contaminants to protect you and your family at home.Straight to the point and easy to understand, I like it!

This also reflected greatly on their product because my air purifier was super easy to use, right out of the box. All I had to do was remove the protective plastic and plug it in, that simple!

Hospital Grade Filtering System

The most important feature to consider in an air purifier is the filter, if you ask me. The filter for our Sterra Breeze Air Purifier is actually designed with the same filter grade that hospitals in Singapore use to decontaminate their wards — the True HEPA-13 Filter. I did my research and found that HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air technology, which helps to remove up to 99.97% of all airborne particles like the ones that you see in the list below. This bad boy also comes with an Activated Carbon layer that can help to get rid of the smell and odor in the air.

To be honest, no matter where you live and no matter how much you clean your home, it’s probably still gonna be filled with pesky uninvited pollutants that you can’t see with your naked eye but we made a list of our concerns and non-negotiables:

  • we are living right beside the main road with lots of heavy vehicles passing by

  • our neighbourhood is really close to a few industrial parks that might produce harmful chemicals, pollutants and dust.

  • on top of that of course, we shed hair, skin flakes, bacteria, etc

With these in mind, we needed something powerful enough to get the job done and our Sterra Breeze Air Purifier definitely does impress us so far. When trying to decide on an air purifier, list down your specific air quality concerns and find something that checks your boxes.

Efficiency

There are different modes on the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier so we can adjust the air flow accordingly. When we first used the device right out of the box, we selected the highest setting since we’ve never used one before and wanted to purify the air. To our surprise, the air quality index was over 30! Gosh. Can you imagine how shocked I was? After just an hour of usage, the number dropped to a single digit so the next day, we decided to switch to auto mode and let the purifier adjust accordingly.

The most shocking part was that this one device was able to cover our whole 4-Room HDB flat, so we usually put it out in the living room where the wifi router is, because that’s the one spot that’s directly in the middle of the house and has direct air flow to every corner. It comes with an efficient 360 purification feature that enables it to cover the corners of my house with poor airflow and is able to release more than forty times the average amount of air we breathe in, in just an hour. That’s a lot.

Size & Weight

It is a full size air purifier so at first, I was a little concerned about how big it is or how easy it will be for me to move this guy around the house. I was planning to just plant it in my home studio and only move it out when my husband comes home. To my surprise, it was still compact enough in size and with its minimalist design, it fits nicely into the aesthetics of the house.

As for the weight, it’s really quite light coming in at just 4.9kg and comes with a handle, so it’s super easy to shift the Sterra around, depending on which room I’m at. Hahaha, it just follows me around the house. I like putting it near the kitchen too as the air can get stuffy after I’m done cooking.

Filter Replacement

Since the air purifier is something that cleans, I wanted to make sure that it’s easy enough for me to clear out the gunk. With the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier, I just have to get the replacement HEPA filters and literally change it myself within seconds, super easy.

Their replacement HEPA filters can either be purchased as part of their bundle or bought separately whenever you need them. The best part? Their powerful HEPA filter can last for up to 1 to 1.5 years of usage, oh my god. I’m smiling as I’m typing this because personally, I prefer using things that I can easily set up and then do very little maintenance for.

Value For Money

This section may not be about the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier but as a frequent online shopper, the warranty and payment methods offered definitely play a part in the amount of carts I abandoned 🤣 You can either get the Air Purifier on it’s own or the bundle, which comes with 3 HEPA Filters that you can use as replacements in the future. Both options come with 3 years of warranty from Sterra so if anything goes wrong, you can simply contact them for support.

In terms of payment methods available, Sterra is pretty extensive and provide many different options. You can either pay the full amount upfront trough your credit cards or paypal, or opt for a 0% installment payment plan with Atome. Sterra also provides generous discounts when you purchase more than one. This is perfect if you have friends and family members with their own houses or if you wish to purchase an extra one for your office. On top of that, they are also offering a huge discount in lieu of New Year’s as I type this, so if I were you, I wouldn’t hesitate. That’s more than SGD200 off for a powerful air purifier, you know!

Other Key Features:

Noise Level

I was anticipating having to switch it off while I attend meetings or film my youtube videos at home but honestly pleasantly surprised. On its lowest fan setting, it’s as if nothing is there. Haha! If you are concerned that your sleeping baby might be sensitive to loud noises, the Sterra won’t affect you at all as it goes to as low as 20db at the lowest fan setting. The noise level is barely noticeable and since we’re both light sleepers, this means that we can leave it on overnight without worrying.

Night Light

This probably isn’t a function that most of you will get excited about so please don’t judge me for this one… but on days where my husband has to do night shifts, I usually sleep with the ceiling lights on because we don’t have a night light. I know, I know. We should be saving electricity. Thankfully, the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier comes with a night light that really comes in handy, for me at least. I just have to toggle it on for a super calming ambience.

Power Consumption

The Sterra Breeze Air Purifier has low power consumption (48W) so keeping both the air purifier with it’s night light on overnight doesn’t really impact our utility bills.

Real Time Air Monitoring

With the SMART Life App, we can easily monitor the air quality through our phones. It is pretty interesting as I learnt about the air quality index and the app accurately measures particles in the air to ensure it is clean and healthy. There is also an option where we can get notified when the air quality hits the unhealthy range, which hasn’t happened yet, thankfully.

I hope this article helps you make a more informed decision! I can honestly recommend the Sterra Breeze Air Purifier with confidence because we have personally tried it at home and felt the difference over just a few days. We slept more peacefully and woke up without the usual morning sinus, which in itself is a great win already. Having an air purifier at home is definitely a great option to combat the contaminants that are not visible to us. I’m glad we’ve started taking a more conscious effort in making little tweaks to ensure our overall health isn’t hampered, while staying safe at home.
