Back from Umrah: A spiritual yet physical journey

Masya’Allah. We have been waiting for this trip for months and what a trip it has been.

Early this year when we made our booking, we weren’t really sure what to expect, as this is our first Umrah trip ever. It honestly felt like we were not ready, and that there were many others who were more deserving to be in our positive. But we attended the courses provided to prepare ourselves before the trip and Alhamdulillah, we got over those negative thoughts. We’re all worthy of God’s grace. And if He wants to give us a chance, who are we to reject this sustenance?

Well, we knew it would be a spiritual journey, but we didn’t realize how much it would also be a physical one. Not going to lie — our journey to Madinah and Makkah wasn’t an easy one. We were happy to be there, but old injuries revisited and it was a struggle to walk some of the more strenuous parts of the trip. But Alhamdulillah, despite all of that, Allah made it possible for us to complete not one, but three umrahs during this trip. Alhamdulillah.

It was incredible to see the Kaaba, and to be able to touch it and kiss it. It is so humbling and awe-inspiring, a reminder of how small we are in comparison to God and His greatness. One of the amazing incidents was when we did tawaf — we walked around the Kaaba seven times, praising Allah with every step and despite there being thousands of people in that same area, there were always pockets of space for us to safely complete our tawaf. No doubt, there were multiple times where patience was tested. But the feeling of being in that space with all Muslims around us, all united in our love for God and His Messenger (peace be upon him), was indescribable.

Other than the physical umrah, we also went on a historical tour and this part of the trip was an amazing experience for us. It was our first time in the city of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and we felt like we were walking through history, following his footsteps. It was also our first time in Taif, Badr, Makkah and Madinah — four cities that are so rich with Islamic history — and the sights were absolutely breathtaking. What made this trip truly special was spending time with each other, sharing and witnessing each other’s love for Allah (SWT).

There is honestly so much to write about from this trip — most of which would be kept for memories sake but there are also tons that we would love to share as we learn together about our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the religion.

As always, daily updates from the trip are on our Instagram story highlights, vlogs and shorts on our Youtube channel and bite-size videos will be on our TikTok. We’ll also add the links to newer articles into this post as we go along writing them, Insha’Allah. Thank you for reading til the end! ♥︎
